LEARNING DISABILITY THROUGH ASTROLOGY

The Cosmic Connection: My Journey with Depression, ADD, and a Pisces Moon

A word of caution: I'm still taking baby steps in my astrology journey and don't intend to pursue it as a career or side hustle. I'm learning simply to satisfy my own curiosity.

During my sophomore year of college, I was diagnosed with clinical depression and Attention Deficit Disorder (ADD). My school days were traumatic, filled with verbal abuse and bullying at school and at home. I was told these conditions were incurable. And while they might be, I've learned that they're not insurmountable.

My birth chart offers some fascinating insights into my experience. I'm a Pisces moon with an Aries Ascendant, which places my moon in the 12th house. This house, along with the 6th and 8th, is considered a Dusthana, or a dreaded house in astrology. Planets in these houses are said to struggle to deliver their optimal results. The 12th house specifically represents far-off lands, dreams, and concepts that exist only in our imagination.

The moon itself represents our conscious mind, our thought patterns, and our inherent preferences—the part of us that's naturally drawn to math or art, for example. My moon's position in the 12th house, along with a portion of it falling in Scorpio, where it's considered to be in a state of debility, makes me believe my mind is in a "house of faraway lands." It never feels truly present in its surroundings.

This, I believe, explains my ADD. My attention span

is low; one minute I'm here, and the next, my mind has wandered somewhere else entirely. This also corresponds to the affliction and debility of the moon. The moon also represents the mother, and I've never shared an amicable bond with mine.

My Personal Remedies

I've learned to be wary of astrologers and their remedies, believing a lifelong karmic lesson renders them useless. I also don't trust the use of gemstones. Instead, here are the remedies that have worked for me:

  • Lalitha Sahasranama: To chant the Lalita Sahasranama, get up at 4 a.m., light a ghee lamp, and chant the names of Lalita. While this isn't the form suggested in Tantra Vidya (which traditionally requires a guru's initiation), you can still follow this simplified process. I highly recommend seeking a guru when possible, but in the meantime, this frugal method is effective. The key is to be slow, gentle, and precise with your pronunciation. This remedy is said to be particularly effective for people with an afflicted moon.

  • Matangi Mudra: For those with ADD, practice Matangi Mudra for 45 minutes to an hour, and remember to watch your breath throughout.

  • Diet: I recommend consulting a nutritionist while also incorporating almonds, spinach, and broccoli into your daily diet.

I hope that sharing my journey can provide some insight and comfort to others who may be on a similar path.
